Fishing Breaks
Here at Bulworthy Forest Lodges many a day can be whiled away fishing in the four well stocked lakes nestling in the valley amongst the lodges.
Webbery and Barton Lakes offer Coarse fish (the lakes opposite Kingfisher Lodge/ Lakeside Lodges and Chestnut Lodge respectively) and small carp. The Coarse Fish (Tench, Roach, Perch and Bream) are also in Matthew’s Lake (at the entrance gate) and Bulworthy Lake. There have been some good sized perch caught over the last couple of years- we post the images on facebook if the guests are happy for us to do so .
We pride ourselves on the welfare and sustainability of Bulworthy fish as well as the wildlife and birdlife that share our beautiful 24-acre estate. That’s why we only allow our guests to fish in our lakes and we also ask you to please abide by our fishing rules . Thank you in advance.
Fishing on our lakes requires all persons over 13 years to have an Environment Agency rod license which can be obtained from any Post Office or by visiting https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences.
We ask that non barbed hooks are used and no keep nets are used.
Latest News:
A recent guest reported that 'if you fish it right you can catch 50 fish/hour but these are mainly small roach under 4 oz- ' hence it is a great learning ground for the novice fisher-people in your party.
He also went on to say that there are nice size fish too-he caught roach, bream ( over 2 lbs) rudd and perch.
Last year, some diligent fishing brought out a 17 lb carp from Webbery Lake but this year no signs of the big carp and we are afraid that we may have had an otter here with kits who has now moved on. Despite this there is wonderful fishing to be had .-
In Matthew’s Lake recently a wonderful perch of approx. 4lbs. showed up.
The fish are in good condition as the lakes are not intensively fished and should you need advice or forget anything, we have a great local tackle shops at Barnstaple Bait and Tackle Shop (15 min drive) or Aif you needAnglers Heaven in Bideford.
